The Lutsen Superior Spring Trail races held Saturday, May 19 saw a record breaking run from Duluth’s Benjamin Cogger in the 50K.
Cogger, who won in 2017 with a record breaking time of 3:45:28, finished three minutes faster this year with a time of 3:42:09.
Michelle Pratt of Albany, New York was the top woman finisher in with a time of 4:53:07.
All told, 232 ran the 50K (31 miles) over the rugged Superior Hiking trails.

Chase Nowak of Minneapolis won the men’s 25K in 1:51, and Cassie Pratt of LaCross, Wisconsin was the first women finisher with a time of 2:05:41.
Emma Spoon, Grand Marais, who won in 2017 with a course record of 2:00:26, helped with the race this year as she and her husband, Shane Steele, were training for a shorter race in the Twin Cities.
Josh Lindstrom of Grand Marais placed 93rd with a time of 3:02:10. Jeff Cadwell, Grand Marais, finished 120th with a time of 3:12:43.
Jeanne Monson crossed the line in 3:44:09, placing 209 overall. Sarah Dragswiek, age 60, Grand Marais, ran 3:59:37 to place 239 out of 297 entries.
12K
Wynn Davis, Stillwater, Minnesota, won the men’s 12K with a time of 54:48. Bayli Maliszewski took the women’s title in 1:13:30.
The first local finisher in the 12K was Theresa Oberg, placed 8th in the women’s field with a time of 1:18:45. Sara Taylor, Lutsen, placed 11th in 1:22:57.
Nathan Works, Grand Marais, finished 205 in 2:34:54.
