The 15-day lottery registration window opened January 1 and closes January 15 for the Superior Spring Trail Races. The drawing will be held January 25 to see who gets into the field.
Runners will toe the line in Lutsen at Caribou Highland Lodge on Saturday May 20, 2023, to compete in one of three events, the 50km, 25km or 12.5km trail races.
The events will be held on the rugged Superior Hiking Trail. How tough are these competitions? Race organizer John Storkamp advises, “While the distance of the 12.5K (7.75 mile) race may be inviting to newer trail runners, we do not suggest this as a first trail race for everyone. It is important to note and feel comfortable with the following prior to registering for this race… that; a.) this is a very rugged, technical and hilly course b.) there is no aid along the way / you will need to carry everything you need (food and calories) with you from start to finish and c.) the race is held on a very remote section of trail with no opportunities to bail out. If you are comfortable with these variables, you are in for a real treat as this is a stunning section of trail and is one of our favorites.”
Another word of advice from Storkamp is “Do not register until you have reviewed this page (Superior Spring Trail Race 12.5KM Participant Guide) in its entirety. Once registration is open, complete details including entry fees, field limits, and the link to our registration page on UltraSignup (third party registration provider) can be found HERE https:// www.superiorspringtrailrace.com/registration info/.”
