Superior National’s George Nelson Jr. Challenge Cup to benefit two scholarship funds for veterans

On June 22, Superior National will host the first annual George Nelson Jr. Challenge Cup. The 18-hole golf scramble is a fundraiser that will benefit two veteran’s organizations: Folds of Honor Foundation whose mission is to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members, and the 10th Mountain Division Foundation which provides scholarships to financially needy descendants of 10th Mountain Division veterans.

George Nelson Jr. was the founder of the Superior National Golf Course and served in WWII as a member of the elite 10th Mountain Division. His legacy, as well as veterans and their families, is being honored with this event.

According to Heath Ekstrom, head PGA pro at Superior National, “We are honored to be able to pay tribute to George Nelson Jr. and all of the other veterans and families that have served our country with this event. Our hope is that we fill out our registration with 18 teams, raise a lot of money for the scholarship funds, and have a great day out on the golf course.”

Registration is $100 per golfer and includes greens fees and cart, lunch and beverage, gift pack, $10 donation to both nonprofits, and a come back offer for $15 off your next 18-holes plus 20 percent off on regularly priced merchandise (on the return visit).

Teams are challenged to raise their own pledges to support the Folds of Honor and 10th Mountain Division scholarship funds. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the most donations. The winner of the 18-hole scramble will be awarded the George Nelson Jr. Challenge Cup.

There is a limit of 18 teams for the event. The registration deadline is June 15. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Superior National website, or golfers may call 218-663-7195.
