Superior National hosted a Rally for the Cure® Women’s Golf Scramble on July 21. Rally for the Cure is a grass roots program that works to increase breast self-awareness and mammography screening rates to ensure the early detection of breast cancer through volunteer-organized golf, tennis and social events.

More than two million people have participated in Rally for the Cure events across the nation since its inception in 1996. This year marks the 7th year Superior National has rallied against breast cancer.

Superior National hosted 81 participants in an 18-hole “Scramble” event. The day’s activities included fun on course contests like “pitch in the pool” and “closest to the pin.” Prizes were awarded to many of the contestants of the event and each participant received a goody bag with important breast health information, other Rally items plus a subscription to a select Condé Nast magazine such as SELF, Golf Digest or Bon Appétit.

“We were very pleased with the turnout for the event. The event brought together our members and the community and beyond for an important cause. We had golfers travel from the Twin Cities and Canada. There was a sense of excitement throughout the day’s events,” stated Heath Ekstrom, PGA Head Professional and Rally Ambassador. “I’m also very thankful to the businesses and individuals locally and beyond that contributed by either gifts or money to the event.”

The mission of Rally for the Cure is to empower people to take action in the fight against breast cancer by providing a platform for them to educate their family, friends and community on the importance of early detection through an activity they are passionate about.

“The success of Rally is attributed to volunteer ambassadors like Heath, who have said, ‘Yes, we can have a Rally at our club’. It is their enthusiasm, energy and support we value in our commitment to support Susan G. Komen,” says Diane Perillo, Program Manager, Rally for the Cure.

Since 1996 Komen has received over $65 million from fundraising activities at Rally events to help fund lifesaving breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. Rally for the Cure® is based in Wilton, Connecticut.
