Superior National Forest offers virtual services in response to COVID-19


The Superior National Forest is closing offices and implementing virtual services until further notice to protect the health and safety of employees and members of the public during the COVID-19 outbreak in accordance with guidance from federal and state authorities.

Customers needing information are encouraged to call Forest Headquarters (218) 343-8972, Gunflint Ranger Station (218) 387- 1750, LaCroix Ranger Station (218) 666-0020, Kawishiwi Ranger Station (218) 365-7600, Tofte Ranger Station (218) 663- 8060, and Laurentian Ranger Station (218) 229-8800 from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday – Friday for prompt, customer service. To obtain permits for special forest products such as firewood contact one of the Ranger Station offices.

For visitors that have specific questions about the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or the reservation system for Wilderness permits and campground reservations, we have set up a specific “hot-line” number and email in-box. “As we work through an unpredictable and rapidly changing situation, health and safety is our number one priority,” said Forest Supervisor Connie Cummins. “We are committed to continuing to support our communities and fulfill our mission as we all work together to minimize the impacts and spread of COVID- 19.” These actions have been taken based on the best available medical advice to limit gatherings of large numbers of people and to promote social distancing.
