Superior Cycling Association up for funds for single-track mountain bike trail

On July 18, 2018 the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) selected 67 projects totaling $53,695,700 to recommend to the 2019 Minnesota Legislature for funding from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF).

One of those projects selected was the Superior Cycling Association, which has been recommended to receive $300,000 for the Britton Peak to Lutsen Mountains Bike Trail in 2019.

The money will be used to build a “Sustainably built single-track mountain bike trail connecting trail clusters that draws new visitors and becomes part of the North Eastern Minnesota efforts to become a national destination for mountain bikers.”

This summer seven miles of single-track trail will be added to the connector route. A total of 17 miles is the distance between Britton Peak and Lutsen Mountains.

Tim Kennedy, a board member on the SCA club, wrote and submitted the grant to LCCMR.

The recommendations are the result of the LCCMR’s 2019 Request for Proposal (RFP) process, in which 273 proposals requesting a total of approximately $191 million were received and considered through a competitive, multi-stage evaluation.

The recommendations range from funding the full proposal and dollar amount requested to partial funding for specific proposal elements.
