Superintendent hired for Gunflint Hills golf course

The wait is finally over. After a lengthy search, Paul Jones was hired as the Gunflint Hill golf course superintendent.

The decision was made official at the Grand Marais city council March 13 meeting.

If Jones name sounds familiar, it’s because he was hired last fall to provide professional turf maintenance for the golf course after long-time golf course director Mike Kunshier retired.

Following Kunshier’s retirement, the golf course superintendent position was reviewed and re-scored under the ROI job analysis tool used by the city to help make sure the city is in compliance with the state pay equity act.

With the updated job description and revised rating, the ROI score went from 163 to 190. The adjustment to the wage range is now $48,922-$58,698. The old range was $44,956-53,948.

Jones will be paid at the base wage of $54,350 annually.
