Sundaes on Sunday for a good cause

Sunday, August 28, was warm, cloudy, and damp, but that didn’t stop folks from coming out to participate in the Care Partners fundraiser at Sydney’s Frozen Custard. The yearly event gives Care Partners a chance to tell people about the services they provide and present volunteer opportunities to people who come by to enjoy a sundae. For $5, people also got to throw their names into a drawing for a quilt.

Who are Care Partners?

Care Partners provides services and support to help clients and families address aging, serious illness, and end-of-life transitions with safety, dignity, and confidence. Also offered are assistance for those 60 years old and over with short-term tasks like replacing light bulbs, yard work, minor carpentry, organizing, cleaning, and delivering food, medication, and other goods. Clients are asked to donate to these services based on a sliding scale of monthly income.

When a client doesn’t have an option to get to medical, personal, or wellness appointments in Cook County or medical or eye appointments in Duluth, Care Partners will arrange rides for you.

End of life Doulas are also available to provide emotional, social, and spiritual support as folks go on their final journey.

If you want to stay in your home, a nurse care coordinator will listen to your needs and goals and try to arrange for help to see if it is possible. Trained volunteers provide companionship and check-ins, a presence at end-of-life, and give respite for caregivers.
