Five local artists, all alumni of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, have re-united to exhibit their paintings at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts July 29-31 and Aug. 5-8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The women artists attended the college that was then known as the Minneapolis School of Art. All have studied under the late Bernie Quick and Byron Bradley. The initial summer art school was founded by Quick in 1947. When Bradley joined as a partner in 1954, it became known as the Grand Marais Art Colony.
The featured artists are Alice Powell, Jan Attridge, Carolyn Sevareid, Emily Ulhorn and Emma Bradley. The exhibit will be held in conjunction with performances of the Grand Marais Playhouse musical You Never
Know.
Titled Sun Kissed Paintings,
the exhibit will feature works done in watercolor, oil and acrylic. While it’s been decades since the artists first applied brush to canvas in Minneapolis, they all eventually found their way to the Arrowhead Country — evidence that the North Shore provides the setting favored by Minnesota’s most talented artists.
