Summer naturalist programs offered at Sugarloaf Cove

What kind of scat is that? Where did those rocks come from? What is blooming this week? What is VHS and is it in Lake Superior? Find out this summer at Sugarloaf Cove!

Sugarloaf: The North Shore Stewardship Association will offer daily naturalist programs this summer. Programs are free of charge and will run Thursday through Monday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.

Other program topics include Lake Superior Rocks: Geology of the North Shore (10 a.m. Thursdays), Not-So-Early Bird hikes (at 10 a.m. Fridays), kids programs on Thursdays and Saturdays from 2 to 3 p.m.; One Great Lake (2 p.m. Sundays) and North Shore Flora, Fauna and Phenology (2 p.m. Mondays). With varied landscapes and lake shore access, Sugarloaf Sensations are an interactive way to learn more about northern Minnesota.

Sugarloaf Sensation programs will also address some of the current issues facing the North Shore: invasive species, VHS and ballast water controversy, and wildlife populations.

“Sugarloaf has had a long tradition of offering quality Saturday programs,” says Sugarloaf Cove Naturalist Alexis Berke-Hutchins. “These programs will offer residents and visitors greater access to the natural treasures that Sugarloaf and the North Shore have to offer.” The programs are appropriate for all ages and levels of interest.

Sugarloaf Cove is located on Highway 61 at milepost 73.3, between Little Marais and Schroeder. For a program schedule check online at www.sugarloafnorthshore.org.
