Summer has finally arrived, and the residents have been enjoying time on the patio on those nice warm sunny days. With our new patio area, residents are able to access the outdoor space whenever they like. We are continuing to enhance our outdoor living spaces with shrubs, flowers, water features, shade, and beautiful trees making it an attractive and pleasant place for our residents to enjoy.
The residents and staff welcome student volunteer Wyatt Hadley, from the Incredible Exchange Program, who started working with the Activity Department in June. Wyatt will be here most Wednesday and Thursday afternoons to visit with residents, and assist with the exercise group and bingo.
July is National Picnic and Family Reunion Month, and the residents are looking forward to visits from their out-of-town family and friends. We welcome visitors to come and see our new facility, and join in on our activities while visiting.
The grill was fired up on Independence Day for a 4th of July picnic, with all the fixings. The residents will also be celebrating other fun events in July such as National Strawberry Sundae Day, Fortune Cookie Day, and Ice Cream Cone’s Birthday on July 23rd.
The monthly birthday party will be held on July 11 at 3 p.m. July birthdays include Harold Husby, Ken Lacey, Charles Norman, and Pat Martin. Cake and ice cream will be served, and Doug Sanders will play our favorite piano tunes. Please join us as we celebrate and honor these residents.
“Squeezy” Wes Miller, a master accordionist from East Bethel, Minn., will bring his delightful music to the Care Center on July 9 at 3 p.m. Additional musicians this month include Myron Bursheim, Harris Mills, Susan Scherer, Pastor Darren Blanck, Joyce Krueger, Amy Schmidt, and the Portage Band on July 28. Family and friends are encouraged to join us at any of our music events.
We are hoping for good weather on July 12 when we will be travelling to the Cook County Historical Museum to look at the displays, and enjoy some Donut Shop treats afterwards.
Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers who continue to give their valuable time during these busy summer months.
