Summer has finally arrived, and July 2nd marks the halfway point of 2019! July is also National Picnic and Family Reunion Month, and residents of North Shore Living look forward to more visits from their out-of-town family and friends. We welcome all to join in the activities during their visits here.
The residents are hoping for a beautiful day on the 4th of July with plans for a picnic on the patio. Hot dogs from the grill will be served, along with our favorite picnic foods. Other outdoor activities this month include an outing to Harbor Park and the Donut Shop on July 9, and an outing to The Hub for lunch on July 18. Of course, there are a lot of outdoor activities on the patio planned for those sunny days too.
There is a lot of activity on our patio as preparations are being made for sod placement and garden spaces. The patio will also be getting a shaded area installed, and our gazebo will soon be accessible for residents to use. A glider swing that accommodates wheelchairs will be another feature added to our patio, thanks to a generous donation made to North Shore Living for our outdoor space.
At our recent “block parties,” we asked residents and families to bring in their favorite recipes to share. We will be collecting these for our North Shore Living Resident Cookbook, and of course trying them out. This month we will be making Joyce Hagen’s famous chocolate chip cookies. I’m sure they will disappear quickly, as residents and staff are always eager to taste what’s been cooking in our kitchen!
The July birthday party will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 3 p.m., and this month we have a lot of birthdays to celebrate! We will honor Delores Saethre, Eleanor Sjoberg, Iris Shepard, Bill Lyght, Harold Husby, Ken Lacey, Elizabeth Pearson, and Charles Norman. Doug Sanders will once again join us to play our favorite tunes on the piano, and cake and ice cream will be served. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the celebration.
A Mexican-themed Happy Hour with Hilja is planned for July 16. Margaritas and a taco snack will be served while enjoying some “south of the border” music and a fun game.
There will be plenty of music this month too. Myron Bursheim brings his folk music to North Shore Living most Sunday afternoons, and Susan Scherer will be playing piano for us most Wednesday afternoons in July. Harris Mills will be here on July 14 at 2:30 p.m. Amy Schmidt and family will be here on July 22 at 2 p.m. We also welcome Portage Band on July 20 at 6:30 p.m. for a delightful evening of country music. Family and friends are invited to attend any of our music events.
Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers who continue to give their valuable time during these busy summer months.
