Eric Humphrey said management and the staff at the Lake Superior Trading Post in Grand Marais were, “very impressed with the generosity of the community as a whole,” for donating 162 pairs of footwear to the Soles4Souls (SFS) organization.
In addition to collecting and paying to have the shoes shipped to SFS, the trading post also donated 72 new pairs of shoes to total 234 pairs that will be shipped to the Nashville nonprofit, which will then send them to people in need.
“We got everything from sandals to winter boots,” Humphrey said.
This is the fourth year the Trading Post has collected and donated shoes to Sole4Souls, a non-profit begun in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. To date, Soles4Souls has collected and distributed more than 19 million pairs of shoes and sent them worldwide to people affected by storms and disasters.
Humphrey said Lake Superior Trading Post will continue the tradition next year, and added that if someone didn’t have shoes to give but still wanted to help, Soles4Souls (soles4souls.org) also accepts financial contributions that are used to help defray the cost of shipping the footwear around the globe.
