In an effort to help support the local food shelf, the Cook County Senior Center hosted a Food Drive from October 22 to November 20. This week they presented the Cook County Food Shelf with almost $600 in cash and 550 pounds of food, household items and personal hygiene products.

As an incentive to get people to donate to the food shelf, the Senior Center held a raffle. Each donation earned a person a ticket in a drawing and the chance to win a variety of prizes. Prizes were donated by the following local businesses: Gunflint Tavern, Cook County Home Center, The Cook County Whole Foods Co-op, Lake Superior Trading Post, Grand Marais Dairy Queen, Java Moose, Studio 61, Visit Cook County and Betsy Bowen Studio.

All of the donations went directly to the local food shelf and will be given to families in need, just in time for the holiday season.

Programs & Services Coordinator Jes Rodne said, “Thank you to everyone who participated and made the 1st Thanks-for-Giving Fall Food Drive a Success!”
