On Friday, May 8, the student councils from Silver Bay, Cook County, and Two Harbors met in Silver Bay for the annual Join Hands Day, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Each year the event rotates among the host schools. Last year the schools met in Two Harbors and next year they will meet in Cook County.

Each year, the student council uses Join Hands Day as a way to perform a service for their host community. This year, the City of Silver Bay Recreation Department provided three areas for students to rake and clean up. One group worked around City Hall, another down Outer Drive and the third around the Silver Bay Marina.

The students received help from Fred and Nancy Mismash and Arnie and Marlene Overby, who are Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members. Student council advisors Ward Kaiser and Kris Lee, along with Silver Bay Parks and Rec Department employees Mike Guzzo, Donnie Thompson and Silver Bay Marina employees Jeremy Kasipidis and Dallas Dubbin, helped the students accomplish quite a bit.

After the work was done, Cook County student council advisor Pamela Taylor organized a pizza lunch, which was made by Activities Director Roger Koster in the William Kelley High School galley. Two Harbors student council advisor Kris Lee led games that helped the students from the three schools have fun and get to know each other better before departing for the day.

The Silver Bay student council advisor, Ward Kaiser, and the student council of Silver Bay, wish to thank all who participated from the City of Silver Bay Recreation Department and student councils from Cook County and Two Harbors.
