Softball players from four different Cook County teams joined together to play in the 37th annual Finland Fireman’s Wooden Bat Tournament held July 16-18 at Gregg Field.
Called the Stu Warriors, the team from Cook County took 5th place in a deep competitive field of teams that came from all over the region.
Proceeds raised from the weekend help fund the Finland Volunteer Fire and Rescue squads which serve the greater Finland Minnesota area.
The Stu Warriors is a tribute name for fallen teammates that are family and lifelong friends who have been a part of this team, said Rob Hackett. The players honored are Steven Roy and Thomas Spah.
But why is everyone in the picture pointing?
Hackett laughed and said, “The reason we are pointing is because Steven Roy or as we called him Stewie would randomly point somewhere if he saw someone taking a picture of him. We don’t know why but there are so many pictures of him pointing up, but we do it in honor of him.”
