Join us at the Grand Marais Public Library on Saturday, June 3 at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time with Chione, featuring a brand new musical story based on Twin Cities author Ka Vang’s Shoua and the Northern Lights Dragon. Vang’s short chapter book tells the story of Shoua, a Hmong-American girl who discovers her voice as she saves an injured dragon while camping in the northwoods of Minnesota. Hear this story set to beautiful and evocative music composed by fellow Minnesotan Jocelyn Hagen!
Chione will also share the stories of each of their instruments and the ensemble they create – the wind quintet! The program is 45 minutes and is for all ages.
After the program, families can register and pick up materials for the library’s Find Your Voice summer reading program. Kids ages zero to 18 can choose between several ways of tracking their reading and learning activities and earning free books and other prizes. All the materials and instructions will be available at the library throughout the summer, so kids can start their chosen program any time. Families can also register online to have a reading log mailed to them or prepared for them to pick up at www.grandmaraislibrary.org/kids.php. In addition to reading logs, the library will have theme-related activities and special events all summer long. Keep an eye on the library website (www.grandmaraislibrary.org) and youth services Instagram page (@gmlibraryyouth) for announcements, or call the library at (218) 387-1140 to learn more about our summer reading adventures!
Story Time with Chione, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACFH).
