Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply now open

Visitors to Grand Marais have a new resource to help them explore all of the outdoor adventures the area has to offer. Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply, located at 20 E. First St., opened its doors on Monday, June 14 and is ready to offer gear, guided tours, rentals and more to its guests.

Stone Harbor is a unique addition to the area in that it is not just a store or outfitter – it’s both, and staffed with experts in everything from canoeing and camping to kayaking, fly fishing, rock climbing and more. The store carries hard-to-find, high-end brands like Langford canoes, Maelstrom kayaks, and Wintergreen clothing. It also has a wide selection of clothing and footwear, plus artwork and gifts created by local artisans.

“Our team has put together an excellent selection of items, and I’m very proud of the hard work they’ve put in over the last few months,” says store owner Jack Stone. “We’re very excited to share the merchandise and tours with our guests and help them get out and enjoy the area.”

The store’s retail hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guided kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, and fly fishing tours are also offered throughout the week, and can be arranged through the store’s staff. Equipment rentals can also be arranged through the store.

“This portion of the North Shore has so much to offer,” Stone says. “While staying in Grand Marais you can experience some of the best fly fishing in the state, sea kayak on Lake Superior, take a day trip into the BWCAW, canoe on a variety of other inland lakes, climb challenging rock faces with incredible views, and so much more. We’re thrilled to be helping to make these outdoor adventures more accessible to visitors to our area.”
