Still waiting for Teen Center

The rhetoric surrounding plans for a community center is not surprising. People are concerned about costs, which is understandable. It would be nice and a lot more productive if we could work positively as a community to make this happen.

I currently live in the West End, in Schroeder.

A community I believe includes all of Cook County. I lived in Grand Marais as a kid and we drove to Silver Bay to swim. Gas was about $.35 per gallon and minimum wage was just over a dollar.

Taxes? I pay for things I will never utilize. That’s okay. It’s life!

I believe our county commissioners are considering this with their heads and hearts. I think if they actually clocked their hours, we would understand how much heart goes into something like this. Especially given the backlash new ideas bring.

Which brings me to my point. We need to work positively to bring this to fruition. Let’s change the way our community approaches big issues, and move forward toward a goal. The goal being “serving our community.”

There is a great example within our community that we could follow. Grand Portage continues to grow as a community due to head and heart thinking.

Building a community center and supporting it could be one way we could serve our community. I’ve waited for a Teen Center since the 70’s. I look forward to utilizing senior services. I think I will see my tax dollars working!

For me, this could be a symbol that we, as a community, support you! What a powerful message that could be!
