Steven William Sjoberg, 68, of Adelaide, Australia died September 21, 2018 as a result of cancer. Born September 14, 1950 in Duluth, and raised in Grand Marais, Steve was a 1968 graduate of Cook County High School. He graduated from UMD in 1972 with a BS degree and from the U of M with a master’s degree in 1978. He moved to Australia in 1972.
In Australia, Steve is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sons Cristopher (Liz) and Nicolas (Kassie); and two granddaughters, Hadley and Aubrey Sjoberg. A third grandchild is expected late winter. He is also survived by his parents, Ray and Eleanor Sjoberg of Grand Marais; his sister, Kristi (Dave) Carambula; nephews Nathan and Aaron (Kelly) Carambula; and great-nieces Claire and Quinn Carambula.
For more than 30 years, Steve was a teacher and later a school administrator in Darwin, Australia as well as the administrator for long distance learning for students living in the “outback” of the Northern Territory.
A funeral service is planned for October 12, 2018, in Adelaide. A memorial service will be held locally at a later date.
