The Minnesota Historical Society has awarded a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant in the amount of $25,000 to the Gunflint Trail Historical Society for its new Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center.

The grants are made possible by the Minnesota Legislature from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund created with the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution in November 2008. The grants are awarded to support projects of enduring value for the cause of history and historic preservation across the state.

The Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is a project of enduring value because it preserves the history of the people of the Gunflint Trail. The museum will be open daily, beginning July 5, through Oct. 17, and in coming years from Memorial weekend through mid-October. For more information visit chikwauk.com/
