There won’t be a fourth annual Stars of the North Music Festival this summer, said Todd Miller, spokesperson for the Grand Marais Music Collaborative (GMMC), which puts the three day music festival on.

The Stars of the North Music Festival is held the weekend before the Fisherman’s Picnic, which has also been canceled this summer.

A bright spot in the summer, the Stars of the North Music Festival showcases a mix of local talent playing both electric and acoustic music. Starting Friday in the Grand Marais Harbor Park, the music carries through the day and early evening on Saturday and culminates in a “Rocking Gospel Hour” on Sunday, ending about noon.

The event is free, but shirts and drinks are sold, with the proceeds used to offer scholarships to local kids who otherwise couldn’t afford to pay for music lessons.

While the festival won’t be held this summer, Miller said all is not lost. “Musicians are famous for doing things at the last minute, so this cancellation gives us a chance to plan for next summer,” he said, adding, “We are currently offering music lessons online to our students, so that is going well. It’s not all bad news.”
