I’ve heard that the reason women live seven years longer than men is to make up for all the time we spend waiting in line to go to the bathroom.
I contributed part of my seven years standing in line at the Grand Marais public restroom. This women’s bathroom has only one stall. There were 6 to 10 women standing there at any one time, all day long, during the art fair. It is nice to socialize and meet new people. But while we each stood for 15 minutes in that stinky indoor cubicle, we noticed dozens of men pass us by while entering and leaving the men’s room. Not one stood in line.
Women started complaining amongst themselves, and they had plenty of time to build their ire. This is bad public relations, Grand Marais!
As a local, I tried to explain the remodeling difficulties, the lack of sufficient sewer structure. Meanwhile, a grandmother in obvious distress left to find some other location. We eventually commandeered the men’s room in frustration, and stood guard while each of us used it. Most men were miffed at waiting even a few minutes.
My suggestion to the city is to add a urinal to the women’s room, provide a lock on each of the restroom’s doors, and label them both Unisex. Have a line that everyone stands in while waiting to use one or the other. Any local business looking at remodeling should consider the same. I’m willing to share my seven years!
