The “Boys of Summer” are back at it again. Here Kale Boomer takes a mighty swing at a pitch. Coach Arleigh Jorgenson said this year’s Cook County High School baseball team will be young but will be competitive. The girls’ softball team is also practicing hard. Go Vikes!

The kids started practice in the gym until it was warm enough to go outside. Emphasis was on form, not how far they could throw the 12-pound ball, or, in the girls’ event, how far they could shot-put the 8-pound weight. Above: The kids had to use their imaginations in this drill, as coach Hegg preached the three main tenets of shot-putting: form, form, form.
