Every day during ski season, Alpine skiers try for personal bests. This year it’s the mountain itself that is trying to set a record. Lutsen Mountains has announced that downhill spring skiing will be available through the first weekend in May – for the longest season ever in Minnesota’s history.
Lutsen Mountains received over 13 feet of snowfall this season. For those who typically venture west to enjoy warm weather skiing, it will be a treat to be able to drive only a few minutes or a few hours to ski in a T-shirt.
“This year, skiers can enjoy not only great ski conditions, but also views of our area’s spectacular waterfalls,” says Linda Kratt, executive director of Cook County Visitors Bureau. “As the stockpile of snow melts, it will bring dozens of waterfalls to life in our rivers – adding to the already incredible spring along the North Shore.”
“With a base of two to three feet, the snow conditions are unprecedented for late April,” according to Jim Vick, marketing director at Lutsen Mountains. “Twelve to 15 runs on Eagle Mountain will be open (weather permitting), providing a good selection of green, blue and black diamond runs,” he added.
