In the spring it feels good to wash away the dirt and grime of the muddy season. It’s a time to shake off the dull and put a fresh spin on everything. For me, I usually have a project or two around the house to finish.
Last season it was making a slightly bigger deck so we could lounge and dine outside. This year we are re-tiling two bathrooms. Once the projects are under way, there is an added layer of carpenter dust to remove, but in the end, it is so nice to have a fresh space in the house.
Unfortunately, this year the spring cleaning is possibly going to hit a significant speed bump…12 inches of snow in April! I know it’s not uncommon to have a late winter storm or two, but we have just seen the first peeks of flowers coming up and bits of green grass here and there. It seems so unfair to cover it all with a blanket of snow. Let me just say this for everyone…. ugggggggggg!
Don’t get me wrong I love snow, in the right season…. Christmas just isn’t the same without a covering of white, sparkling snow. Even the New Year ball drop wouldn’t be the same with brown grass surrounding the night, but by mid-April, I think we are all about starting our preparations for summer.
I like getting out the deck chairs and raking the flower beds. It makes me feel as if the long, cold winter is finally over. Time to ditch the snow pants and pull out the capris. I even wore sandals one day last week. Time to pull out the snow boots one more time… uggggggggg!
Spring snowstorms also cause a physical and mental reaction. If you’re like me, don’t you feel just a little bit cheated when it snows after several days of spring weather? We felt the sun on our pasty faces, and now we have to pull on the coats and boots from the closet one more time. It seems so unfair. Well, my remedy is we ignore it.
Let’s pretend we don’t see it. I say there is nothing better than grilling to wipe away the winter blues. Grab some chicken or asparagus or burgers and get the smells of outdoor cooking in the air! Put on those rose-colored glasses and that snow will all look like cotton candy! Who’s with me on this? Peace and good weather to you!
