Spring fever has arrived at the North Shore Health Care Center, and the elders are looking forward to warmer weather and longer days of sunshine. In the meantime, there will be plenty to do indoors.
The beginning of the month will find the residents busy filling Easter eggs for the community Easter egg hunt on April 15. This is a great community service project that the residents have participated in for many years. It brings joy to their hearts to know they have contributed in making this a special day for the little ones of our community.
April 11 is National Fondue Day, and the residents will be having some fondue fun along with Hilja’s Happy Hour in the afternoon.
We have one centenarian birthday to celebrate in April. Ethel Leng will turn 101 on April 12. Other birthdays in April include Trudy Boyd and Shirley Hewitt. Please join us on April 12 at 3 p.m. for the monthly birthday party to help us celebrate. Doug Sanders will play piano, and Eleanor Waha will provide the delicious cake for the event.
The Lioness will host their monthly social on April 15 at 3 p.m. Irene Thompson will provide piano music for the event.
April 23-29 marks National Volunteer Week – a time to recognize the efforts of volunteers at the local, state, and national levels. The residents and staff at the Care Center wish to thank our dedicated volunteers for all the extraordinary things they do all year. This past year has been exceptionally difficult for our volunteers due to the construction. We are so grateful that our many volunteers continued to come, and bring joy to our home amidst the construction. A special Volunteer Brunch will be held in May to honor our volunteers here at the Care Center.
The Flute Reed Ramblers will be coming to the Care Center on April 25 at 2 p.m. for an afternoon of delightful music, and Marco Good will be sharing his musical talent with us on April 29 at 2:30 p.m. Other music this month features Al Fuller on Mondays, Susan Scherer on Wednesdays, Myron Bursheim, and Harris Mills.
On April 27, the elders will be going to the Senior Center for lunch, and visiting with all our friends there.
A special thank you goes out this month to the ladies in the Grand Portage Women’s Auxiliary who donated several beautiful hand-made lap blankets for the residents.
