Spring Fever at the Care Center

The Easter Bunny had some great helpers for the annual Community Egg Hunt, Saturday, March 31. These ladies at North Shore Care Center and many others filled over 2,000 eggs with candy for the big event. It’s a fun community service project for them. Clockwise from left are the bright and cheerful Easter Bunny helpers: Eleanor Matsis, Bernice LeGarde, Janet Morgan, Joyce Kehoe.

Spring is in the air and it sure is welcomed by the residents at North Shore Care Center. Our early spring weather has lifted everyone’s spirits and kept folks busy planting seeds, filling eggs for the community egg hunt, and making Easter crafts.

The April calendar of activities included an outing to the Spring Chorale Concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, as well as lunch at the Senior Center, and the play, Little Women at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Other activities are Lenten Services, Easter Bingo, dyeing eggs, making egg salad sandwiches, and a special ham dinner and church service on Easter Sunday.

Some special guest speakers will be visiting the Care Center in April. Paul Sundberg will give a photo presentation entitled God’s Creation on the North Shore. The local Girl Scouts will talk about the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts in the U.S., and give an update about their recent trip and festivities in Savannah, GA.

Spring clean up will begin indoors and outdoors with gardening projects scheduled around Earth Day and Arbor Day. The Resident Council members will be potting more plants and making craft items for the Spring Fling Sale on May 9.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 11 to honor Peg Keller, Muriel Michaelson, and Delores McLean. There will be cake and ice cream at 3 p.m. along with classic piano music by Doug Sanders. The Lioness Club will host their monthly social for residents on Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. with delicious desserts and music. The Lioness women have been doing this social from September to April for many years.

The April music line up at the Care Center will feature The Sivertones jazz ensemble on Thursday, April 12 at 5:45 p.m. Later in the month the band Portage will perform their classic country music on Saturday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Families, friends, and community folks are always invited to join in the fun at all the music events.

Thank you to our great musicians and to our weekly “regulars” Al Fuller, Irene Thompson, Susan Scherer, and Myron Bursheim.

The residents wish to thank the anonymous person who donated nine cases of Girl Scout cookies to the Activity Dept. The tasty cookies will be a real treat for our coffee klatch groups throughout the summer.

April is National Volunteer Month and we want our volunteers to know that the annual Volunteer Brunch at the Care Center will be during Older Americans Month on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 a.m. There are volunteer opportunities for all ages.
