Curling was alive and well in Cook County the weekend of March 12 and 13 as the Cook County Curling Club hosted its annual open curling bonspiel. A total of 11 teams participated in the weekendlong event with five teams from Canada, one from St. Paul, and five local teams.
The bonspiel was in the traditional format and had a total of four events. All 11 teams played on Sunday morning with the finals starting at 11:30. Themain event was won by the Kowalchuk rink from Thunder Bay with a 7 – 3 win over the Parkes rink from Thunder Bay.
The other three events were won by local teams, with the Brian Olsen rink defeating the Rory Smith rink in a very close game. The Mike Christiansen rink defeated the Don Sutton rink of Thunder Bay, and the Bob Spry rink defeated the Basil Hill rink from Thunder Bay.
Everyone had a good time. The only drawback for the weekend was the great weather outside, while we were inside curling.
See you again next year!
