Spring cleaning and preparation for murder at the Playhouse

Summer is never boring around the Playhouse. Jack Nickolay, our assistant technical director and lighting technician, leads this year’s summer staff. He keeps the crew of Will Brandenburg, Yvonne Block, Maria Nickolay, Melanie Stoddard and Sarah Warren plugging away at the lengthy lists that Director Sue Hennessy sends their way.

Lucy Callander and Amelia Roth, through the “Incredible Exchange Program,” also help out the staff. They’ve been cleaning, sorting and cleaning some more since June 11. As the first show, Lethal Lecture, is at the Harbor Light Supper Club with a limited set, there is time to spend on cleaning and organizing the Playhouse spaces.

There is also the opportunity to do some maintenance on lighting equipment as well. The Playhouse takes care of the school’s performance lighting as well as its own and the staff took each instrument apart, dusted and polished the lenses, put them back together and learned how to bench focus them.

Tickets are now available for Lethal Lecture at the Harbor Light Supper Club, the tale of a lecture on archeology that is interrupted— by murder! The murder must be solved by the cast—the archeologist’s assistant, his “intern,” his wife and an intrepid reporter—and the audience. And of course, while the murder is being solved, the audience will enjoy a delicious Harbor Light dinner and dessert. Appearing in Lethal Lecture is (L-R) Kevin Kager as Professor Hazelton Crandall; Tina Krause as Mrs. Peabody; Stefanie Mitchell as Diana Darling; Sarah Stover as the professor’s assistant, Dr. Hillary Scheckle; Jack Nickolay as Jackson Philips; and Gerry Grant as Mrs. Crandall. For tickets, contact Harbor Light at (218) 387-1142.

The work areas are prepped and ready for the build of The Beaux Stratagem to begin. The Playhouse storage building will receive a visit from the crew next week. Thanks to these folks the Playhouse can be more cost effective in its productions, have a safe working environment, and maintain the Playhouse and Arrowhead Center for the Arts production equipment, ensuring continued high quality performances.

The Playhouse will open Lethal Lecture by Craig Sodaro, a Murder Mystery dinner theater, next Thursday, June 28 at the Harbor Light Supper Club. Tickets, seat selection and dinner choices are available by calling the Harbor Light at (218) 387-1142. Reservations are required. The evening (or matinee on Sundays) includes a three-course dinner of your choice of beef tenderloin, chicken breast w/champagne sauce or breaded walleye and dessert during intermission of chocolate decadence cake or lemon-berry torte.

The show itself runs about an hour and we need enthusiastic audience members to help figure out who-done-it! This comedy mystery will make for a delightful evening out.

The cast includes Kevin Kager as Professor Hazelton Crandall; Gerry Grant as Mrs. Crandall; Sarah Stover as the professor’s assistant, Dr. Hillary Scheckle; Stefanie Mitchell as Diana Darling (you’ll have to come to the show to see what role she plays…) and Jackson Nickolay as Jackson Philips, a reporter. Tina Krauz plays Miss Peabody; she leads the lecture and then the investigation while waiting for the police to show up.

Lots of laughs, good food and enjoyable entertainment! We hope to see you there!
