The Cook County Sportsmen’s Club gathered for a fall event on Saturday, October 17. The weather cooperated, with only a few clouds and light winds. Approximately 20 enthusiastic shooters practiced rifle, handgun and shotgun skills during a shoot at the County Road 6 gravel pit.

Club members and their children took aim at paper, clay pigeon, and steel silhouette targets.

Later, each shooter’s name was placed in a hat for a prize drawing. Sportsmen’s Club board member Scott Puch expertly shuffled and mixed the entries. Club president Randy Spry drew the name of one lucky winner— Owen Anderson, 12-year-old son of Dan Anderson. Owen is the happy owner of his first big game rifle.

At the end of the event, shooters picked up their targets, empty shotgun shells and rifle and handgun brass—leaving the gravel pit cleaner than when they began—as they hope all shooters always do.

A picnic lunch of grilled bratwurst and hot dogs was also enjoyed.
