Spiritual Reflections are misguided

In his Spiritual Reflections columns of the last weeks the pastor of Life in Christ Lutheran Church tells us that we should heed the words of St. Paul “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours.”

He further states that no one “can topple the Creator from His rightful rule over all things.” He then asks us to “think about it. His Word (meaning Jesus), all of nature, and human history attest to it.”

I beg to differ. If we take a look at the disasters of recent years worldwide, of all the people—yes sinners and innocent alike—who are suffering; if we take a look at famines, droughts, hunger and poverty, not only internationally but also nationally, I find it very hard to see it as an attestation by Jesus, nature and human history of the greatness, power, glory and victory of the LORD.

If I am asked to believe this attestation of what I see as evidence of how so-called believers exploit the poor for the sake of their own riches, deprive them of health for the sake of their own healthcare, and refuse to acknowledge the signs of damage they have inflicted and are inflicting upon nature, I cannot honestly go along with such a misguided belief or Spiritual Reflection.
