The spirit of giving is always in season at the North Shore Health Care Center, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the many volunteers that regularly come to visit us.
The residents count their blessings for family, staff, and community members who gave so much this past year. We especially want to thank the American Legion Honor Guard members who came into the Care Center on Veterans Day to honor our resident veterans.
The residents are excited to have their new kitchen to do some holiday baking, and have those wonderful baking aromas drifting throughout their home. They will also be busy decorating, and putting up their tree on December 2. Of course, we will be watching all our favorite Christmas movies throughout the month as well. Our new fireplaces should arrive just in time for Santa to come down the chimney too!
Many music events are planned during the holidays at the Care Center. Amy Schmidt and friends will share their musical talents with the residents on December 14, and Laura Laky and her music students will host a music recital on December 22. Carolers from Zoar Lutheran Church will be here on December 17 along with other carolers throughout the month. Other live music this month will feature Myron Bursheim on Sundays, and Susan Scherer on Wednesdays. The residents thank all of you for bringing such joy to our home!
Bernice Legarde was the proud winner of a turkey at “Turkey Bingo” held on Nov. 16. Bernice donated her turkey to the “Monday Free Meal” at the Congregational Church.
The colder temperatures won’t keep the residents from venturing out to enjoy community festivities. On December 11 we will be attending the Community Christmas Concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and on December 28 we will travel to the Senior Center for lunch and social time with our friends there.
The monthly birthday party will be held on December 13 at 3 p.m. This month we will honor Dorothy Whipkey, Erland Shold, Clarice Krotz, and Gloria Martineau. Cake and ice cream will be served, along with piano music by Doug Sanders.
There will be a new community enrichment group starting on Dec. 16 called “Babes N Bonnets.” Volunteers will get together with a resident on a 1:1 basis to complete a baby hat made from materials of their choice. After several hats are complete, babes and moms from the community will be invited to the Care Center for a tea and social to meet the residents and choose a hat for their little one.
On December 21, Hilja Iverson will demonstrate her skills at making lefse. The residents will get to enjoy one of their favorite Norwegian treats along with Hilja’s Happy Hour.
Santa and Mrs. Claus (along with one of their hard-working elves) will visit the Care Center on Christmas Eve at 2 p.m. with gifts and holiday treats for everyone.
The residents and staff at North Shore Health Care Center want to wish everyone a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
