The North Shore Music Association will host Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble and four guest musicians performing original jazz/classical fusion pieces composed by ensemble director Mike DeBevec at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.

The Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble (Karina Roth, Erik Hahn, Mike Roth, Brett Jones, Mike DeBevec) has performed and taught throughout northeast Minnesota over the past seven years and collected a large, enthusiastic following of music lovers.

This latest project, “All Our Own Jazz,” facilitates a creative collaboration of local musicians who would otherwise not have the opportunity to play together, using original jazz compositions as the medium. All 13 compositions were written by DeBevec, eight of them specifically for the event’s guest artists. This will be the debut performance of the eight new works. A fresh and inspiring concept, this concert will weave together the talent and creativity of exceptional local performers into a unique North Shore musical tapestry.

Guest artists include Philis Anderson, oboe; Barb Lavigne, flute; Kathy Bolstad, clarinet; and Max Bichel, violin.
