Southwick named Teacher of the Year





Jana (Stoskopf) Southwick, a 1984 graduate of Cook County High School (CCHS), has been named Teacher of the Year in the Kasson-Mantorville public school district in southeastern Minnesota. Southwick is a fourth-grade teacher at Kasson- Mantorville Elementary School in Kasson, Minnesota. She has been with the district since 1999.

Southwick is a fourth-grade teacher at Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School in Kasson, Minnesota, a school with over 800 students. She has been with the district since 1999. She teaches in the same district as physical education teacher Cathy (Hennessy) Adams, a 1976 graduate of CCHS.

Before moving to Byron, Minnesota and the Kasson- Mantorville school district, Southwick was an assistant preschool teacher, a long-term substitute teacher, and a fifth grade teacher in the Marshall, Minnesota area. She pursued undergraduate studies at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Winona State University.

Southwick and her husband, Jim, have been married for 24 years and have two children, Meghann (22) and Zach (19). She is the daughter of Bob and Dode Stoskopf. Bob was a longtime minister for Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Grand Marais, where Dode was the director of the Son’s Rays girls’ youth choir.
