Son’s Rays 50th Anniversary concert update

The big news coming from the Son’s Rays upcoming 50th anniversary concert is that it will be well attended. At least by fans, friends and families eager to see the young ladies reunite and hear them sing, again.

That said, chief organizer, Dode Stoskopf is planning for a joyous, yet safe, concert for both the guests and singers. She sent out an open letter to the public, and in it is a call out to some of the former members of this choir.

On the issue of COVID- 19, Dode says, “We would welcome any masks to be worn either by Rays or the audience. We would not require them as that restriction has been removed.” But she added, “We will practice the space requirement that all have used for the audience and women of the choir.”

The Son’s Rays will not go into the audience, she said, nor “will we shake hands. Instead, we will hold elbows or shoulders, the same with the audience. Then, we will ask our families to come out where they are and form a circle around the entire audience with space taken.”

As far as getting together to practice, Dode says, “The rehearsal is needed, but not necessary. Suppose you cannot be there to get your shirts, etc. OK, but please let us try to be there at the Sunday time, especially for the picture.

“If you do not think your voice is worthy of the choir now, think again. It always blended in before. Or if you have to sit or only be there to listen, please come. All is possible.

I am hoping for around 40-50, that many seem to be coming, but that can change. I do have two hotel rooms reserved. If you cannot get one, I am holding them for another week, so if you are interested in them for one night or so, let me know.

The town is crowded and torn up, but it has been done so that one can easily drive where they will and still get around, so they (construction crew) have done an excellent job with all the confusion.”

Sunday, August 8, the community will gather for the 50th Birthday Celebration Concert of Son’s Rays at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. The Rays who can gather will again sing songs for the community who come to hear them. The Son’s Rays will assemble on August 8 for a Prelude of Praise at 9:45 a.m., followed by sharing songs throughout the worship at 10 a.m.

Come out for the music and celebration, but be safe as you celebrate this reunion.
