Sones de Mexico ensemble is the country’s premier folk music organization specializing in Mexican ‘son’, including the regional styles of huapango, gustos, chilenas, son jarocho, and more. The two-time Grammy-nominated group has toured nationally and internationally, including performances at the Getty Museum in L.A., New York’s Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
While in Grand Marais, Sones de Mexico will teach a Mexican folk music and dance class and perform an evening concert. Both are open to all ages.
Sones de Mexico will lead a folk music and dance class Feb. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grand Marais Art Colony (120 3rd Ave. W). All ages, $5 per person. Bring your guitar, mandolin, violin, drums, flute, saxophone, trumpet, voice; you name it…and/or comfy shoes for dancing! No reservations—just drop in.
Sones de Mexico will perform in concert March 1 at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Tickets $15 adult, $5 youth 18 and under.
