Something for everyone at Cook County Higher Education

“Really? It’s free?” At Cook County Higher Education (CCHE) you can find all sorts of free services and financial help. Last month, the tuition scholarships were highlighted. This month let’s talk about other financial savings you can find through CCHE programs.

Did you know we offer free tutoring services? If you, or someone you know, is struggling with a class or a subject, we can help. There are a lot of really intelligent people living in Cook County. Let CCHE pair you with one of these experts for help with classes and coursework, inspiration, and direction, writing and editing essays, or whatever you need. Free tutoring is available for both K-12 and adult learners. CCHE pays the tutors, but the service is free to the student. If you are interested in being or getting a tutor, email Carly Puck at outreach@ myCCHE.org.

Did you know we offer textbook scholarships? Textbooks can be very expensive, so CCHE provides up to $200 per school year to Cook County residents enrolled in distance education or onsite course in Cook County. The scholarships are awarded on a sliding fee scale. Lenna Stever, the Student Support Coordinator, can give you the details at support@ myCCHE.org.

Have you attended any of CCHE’s online programming? Since April 2020, CCHE has offered a “no questions asked” scholarship opportunity for all CCHE programming. Anything we offer can be discounted at checkout 50 – 100%. If you are interested, look at the events on myCCHE.org to sign up. Kelsey Rogers Kennedy, Programming Director, is always interested in hearing what training, programming, or class local residents need and want. She is a rock star at finding ways to meet the needs of the community. Send your ideas to programs@myCCHE.org.

Need a laptop to go back to school or communicate with family and friends? CCHE partnered with PCs for People in St. Paul in March 2020 to purchase refurbished laptops for $150-$200 each. Since then, we have sold 201 to your friends and neighbors for $150 each with $100 scholarships available. Everyone is welcome to buy a laptop through CCHE – you do not have to be a student or affiliated with us in any way. Currently, 39 HP Laptops are available for purchase. CCHE will continue this program as long as a need exists. Visit myCCHE.org to apply, or contact Karen Blackburn, Executive Director, at director@ myCCHE.org.

Cook County Higher Education has a little something for everyone. As we head into the winter, maybe this is a good time to take a look at the fun classes we offer. And, better yet, you can participate from home on your new laptop!
