If you are looking for a last minute Christmas gift, the Cook County News-Herald reminds readers that books always make wonderful gifts. The Grand Marais Library provided the following mini-reviews. All of these books, by local authors or with a connection to the North Shore, are available at local stores and gift shops. . Hawk Ridge: Minnesota’s Birds of Prey By Laura Erickson, illustrated by Betsy Bowen Hawk Ridge in Duluth, Minnesota draws thousands of visitors each year to view the migration of Minnesota’s raptors. Laura Erickson, one of the state’s best-known bird authorities has teamed up with local artist, Betsy Bowen to present fascinating details and striking images of hawks, ospreys, harriers, buteos, eagles, and other birds of prey. This book is suitable for avian experts and amateurs alike.
