While most of the county’s hotels, motels, Airbnb’s have temporarily closed to business, asking customers to follow Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s stay-at-home order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, some haven’t shut down, and are advertising for customers.
One owner of an Airbnb finds this unconscionable, and asks his fellow short-term rental owners to follow the governor’s lead and stay closed until the governor lifts his order to stay in place.
“We need to tell people to stay home right now. We need to make sure our elderly don’t get this virus,” he said, not wanting his name divulged.
Still, one person who remains in business says they are keeping their doors open to people who might come here and are stranded, having no place to go.
“There are also people who are coming here for their jobs that need a short-term place to stay. Someone has to be open and take them in,” he said, also asking not to be identified.
Meanwhile the county put out a travel advisory on March 26 that took effect March 27. Stated in the advisory is, “Per Governor Walz’s order, the county requests that anyone traveling from out-of-town self-quarantine for the recommended period of 14 days and monitor individual health per the Department of Health’s guidelines.”
The governor’s advisory is supposed to end April 10th, but as we have all seen, nothing is certain. If the travel advisory is extended, then anyone coming here should be ready to follow the self-quarantine rules, or be cleared to work.
