The Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District (Cook SWCD) has an immediate opening for a supervisor to fill the seat vacated in District 5, east end of the county. The Board is looking for a person with commitment and concern for protecting the land and water resources of Cook County.
Supervisors provide local and regional leadership and make decisions affecting watersheds, lakes, wetlands, soil, and forests. The board works with private and public landowners who wish to initiate conservation protection and restoration projects on their land. Its mission is to “maintain soil and water quality in Cook County by fostering responsible land use and by controlling soil erosion and non-point pollution. The Board will encourage local conservation efforts by providing educational, technical, and financial assistance for local land users.”
Cook SWCD is a special purpose local government unit governed by an elected five-member board. Eligible applicants for supervisor must live in their nomination district. The current opening is for District 5, which includes Ranges 3E – 7E (east of the Kadunce River watershed). The appointed supervisor will hold this office until December 31, 2020, at which time the seat will be up for election. Supervisors receive monthly meeting per diems and mileage reimbursement.
