With snow piling up across the Northland in amounts not seen in recent years, this winter has shaped up to be a great one for those who participate in winter sports.
Coming this Saturday, Feb. 2 is the 10th annual Snowmobile Fun Run, which is open to everyone and anyone by snowmobile, car, and even plane. The cost to participate is $20 per person.
The main starting point and registration will take place at the Cook County Snowmobile Club grooming shack clubhouse. The groomer shed is located off the Devil Track Road on South Shore Drive (there will be signs).
It is recommended that participants should park at the old airport runway and ride sleds over, as parking is limited at the groomer shack. Registration will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
If you are staying up the Trail you can also register at Hungry Jack Lodge. You will need to collect a stamp from each participating business, which includes Skyport Lodge (formerly The Landing), Gunflint Pines, Trail Center, Hungry Jack Lodge and the groomer shack.
If you get all six stops you will be dealt six cards upon returning to the groomer shed. You will be dealt one card for each stop once back to the shed. Everyone must be back by 5:30 p.m. in order to be dealt the cards. Cash prizes for low and high hand. Food and drink specials along the way at participating stops.
