Snow Angels, time for a new record?

Calling all of Minnesota.

Right about now, my fellow Minnesotans are probably stuck inside, sad and desperate for something to do. Can’t go to restaurants. Can’t go to the movies. Bars are closed. Youth sports have been shut down, so you can’t go to games. Your eyes are blurry from all of the reading and TV watching. At least mine are. So what’s left? I have an idea. It’s plenty serious and everybody will have to cooperate. In fact, with a New Year’s deadline, it’s time to start training.

Time to get ready to set a new world record for making snow angels.

Nova Scotia residents set the current world record of 22,022 snow angels made simultaneously in 2011. They broke the 2007 record of 8,962 snow angels set by North Dakota residents.

On New Year’s Day at noon, go out and make a snow angel. Send a buck or two to your local food shelf and indicate that you took part in the crusade to set a new world record. If you don’t have a buck or two, pick a time to volunteer to help a neighbor or non-profit. Even sending someone a joke or positive message that brightens their day works. Remember, making snow angels is just a start to your making your new year something special. It’s a time to readjust your halo. No more gloom and doom. Sure it’s silly. But aren’t we all ready for some silliness? Plus, this a chance to do some good while we get to call ourselves the snow angel capital of the world. The News-Herald will be providing a website for you to register your snow angel and submit pictures so that we can track our progress towards the world record. More details will be provided in the coming weeks.

Now get out there and practice!
