It was a tough battle, but in the end the team of Brian Smith, Bruce Johnson, Don Sorlie and Dan Truchanare took the team title and are the Cook County Open League curling champions for the 2017-2018 curling season.

To win the crown the Brian Smith team had to defeat the Rory Smith club. Shawn Swearingen skipped while Rory played third, Jeff Cadwell threw second and Rich Palmer threw first.

In the eighth end Shawn Swearingen was up by one, but he didn’t have the hammer. Still, after his last rock was delivered, Swearingen was sitting with the rock closest to the button, putting all of the pressure on Brian Smith to deliver one last great shot.

With his last rock Brian was able to chip out Swearingen’s count rock, and his shot rock curled into the house to give him two points to win the game.

It was a good game to watch between two really good teams. Curling is done for the season and will resume in the fall with the club hosting its 9th Annual Halloween Open Bonspiel, October 26, 27 and 28, 2018.
