Taking a page from the Police Lip Sync Challenges that have been going viral this summer, we want to expand on the idea to include an entire town, in a way that only a small town can.
This will feature the downtown core and local businesses, prominent citizens, and locals and tourists lip syncing to one song that showcases small town life.
The video will end with a challenge to other small towns to show what they’ve got. The final edited video will be posted on YouTube and Facebook through Visit Cook County and Cascade Vacation Rentals.
Date and Time: October 9 at 9 a.m.; October 10 and 11 will act as rainy-day back-ups.
Song: “Home” by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros (featuring Gulu Widow’s Choir) www.youtube.com/watch?v=mikrp7ln-fE Details: Route will start near East Bay Suites at the end of Wisconsin Street and in the Grand Marais harbor. Route may be adjusted based on timing prior to filming.
The video will begin with Murray Moose and the Cook County Sheriff ’s Department, to look like any other Police Lip Sync. As they move along, other members of the Grand Marais community will join in. By the end of the route we hope to see a significant number of locals and visitors representing all of the things that make Grand Marais unique.
Who Can Participate: Anyone who wants to! We’d love to have prominent city officials, students, seniors, and everyone in between. Preferably Grand Marais residents and those who live in Grand Marais (a Lutsen video will be following). If you want to participate, and are not an owner or employee of a downtown business, meet at the Coast Guard parking lot by 9 a.m. on October 9.
Be familiar with the song, well enough to lip sync to. Owners and employees of downtown businesses will join the video when the group moves past their business (side street businesses will join at their intersection) and do not need to meet at the parking lot. If you are a business coming as a group please let us know ahead of time that you plan to be there so we can coordinate your entrance as a group.
Those not coming as part of a business will be placed around the area and cued in as groups. Feel free to dress up as a “character,” something that makes Grand Marais unique (fisherman with fishing gear, bring your fat bike, full hiking gear, etc.). Script and More Information: RSVP through the Facebook Event page for the “Grand Marais Small Town Lip Sync Challenge.” The script, song, and other information will be posted there. www.facebook.com/events/601612630235767/
