Cook County Law Enforcement received a call reporting a two-vehicle crash on Highway 61 in Hovland on Sunday, April 3 at 12:17 p.m.
Anna Ross, 18, of Duluth, was traveling east on Highway 61 in a 2007 Mazda 3. She slowed to make a left-hand turn at 5901 East Highway 61 and was rear-ended by a 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by Redento Facca, 77, of Thunder Bay.
The collision spun both vehicles into the ditch on opposite sides of the highway.
Hovland First Responders and the Hovland Fire Department were on scene at 12:38 p.m. to discover that Ross was pregnant. Although she did not appear to be injured, she was transported by Cook County Ambulance to North Shore Hospital as a precaution, where she was evaluated and released.
Levi Axtell, 20, a passenger in Ross’s car and M-Louise Blake, 65, of Thunder Bay in Facca’s car were uninjured.
Airbags did not deploy but both drivers and all passengers were wearing seatbelts and no one suffered serious injury.
The vehicles were severely damaged and were towed by Cook County Towing.
Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Aaron Schmidt said the highway was slippery and visibility was low because of heavy snow. He said following too close and traveling too fast for conditions was a factor, but did not rise to the level of citation.
