Sky Blue with Horns coming to Bethlehem Lutheran

At 7 p.m. on May 25 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the North Shore Music Association (NSMA) will host Sky Blue with Horns, a concert celebrating the role of horns in the history of jazz.

Tom Pfotenhauer, a virtuoso on trumpet and flugelhorn, will join Grand Marais’ very own Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble for this special event. Pfotenhauer, a music professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth, regularly performs classical, jazz, and popular music regionally and nationally. Sky Blue Jazz’s celebrated members are Mike Roth, string bass; Karina Roth, vocals; Erik Hahn, saxophone and flute; Eric Anderson, trombone; Thomas Stamps, percussion and vocals; and Mike DeBevec, piano and vocals.

This one-night-only concert will feature well-known jazz standards from composers such as George Gershwin, Miles Davis and Chick Corea, pop/jazz fusion tunes from Blood, Sweat and Tears, Sting, and Etta James, and original horn tunes and arrangements by band members Tom Pfotenhauer, Eric Anderson, and Mike DeBevec. Soaring horns, rich vocal harmonies, and complex rhythms will fill the venue, providing a lush and exciting adventure for your ears.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for youth ages 18 and under. They will be sold at the event only, starting one-half hour before show time. Bethlehem Lutheran Church is located at 417 First Ave. West, Grand Marais. For more about this and other NSMA-hosted events, visit northshoremusicassociation.com.
