Two miles north of Grand Marais on the Gunflint Trail, cross-country skiers of all athletic abilities and spectators will gather for the Pincushion Mountain Winter Festival on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019.
This one-day event includes eight skiing events throughout the day for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers in classical, freestyle and skijoring, and ranging from .5k to 30k, and is open to both adults and children.
“Many cross-country skiers enjoy warming up during the Pincushion Festival for the American Birkebeiner, which takes place the following weekend near Hayward, Wisconsin,” said Linda Jurek of Visit Cook County.

2 p.m. .5K Kids’ Classical Race (Beginner) (Registration Fee $5)
2:15 p.m. 1.5K Kids’ Classical Race (Intermediate) (Registration Fee $5)

3 p.m. 7K Skijoring Single Dog Race – Interval Start (Registration Fee $20)

North Superior Ski and Run Club is celebrating its 40th year. The club is responsible for all trail maintenance of Pincushion Mountain. They sponsor many youth skiing and running programs for Cook County, including the high school teams.
