It’s been a busy season for the Silver Bay – Cook County PeeWees and the numbers show it!
9,650
The number of miles that the Cook County players drive to practices, games and tournaments in Silver Bay, Two Harbors, Duluth, Hermantown, Cloquet, Moose Lake, Richfield and Hayward, WI. If you were to ask Josh Prom, Ethan Sporn, Jake Bilben, Chase Bronikowsi, Andrew Miller, Connor Somnis or Cameron Roy, they would tell you it’s worth every mile.

The number of practices these players have in a single season. These boys eat, sleep, study, rock to their favorite music, play their favorite games and become closer friends and teammates with every mile. Do they love the drive? Probably not, but if you ask any of them, they’d say it’s worth every mile.

The number of games played in tournaments against not only the teams in their league but teams from Minnetonka, Rogers, Little Falls, Grand Rapids, Mora, Hayward, Elk River, Wayzata, Edina, Andover and Anoka. The PeeWees were 14-9 in Tournament play this year, a record they are very proud of against tough competition, including a 3rd place finish in Richfield and a 1st place finish in their own home tournament in Silver Bay.

The Cook County players are fortunate enough to play with seven great players from Silver Bay. They are Giovanni Marolt, Jarred LaBerge, Thomas Rowlee, Peyton Westerlund, Nic Reineccius, Gavin Leblanc, and Austin Johansen. These kids are not only teammates but great friends as well. Our kids are welcomed into their homes, invited for meals and sleepovers, they are our hockey family and you will not find a more welcoming and hospitable set of parents or kids anywhere.

The PeeWees were coached this year by two great coaches in Wade LeBlanc and Jody Reineccius. I can’t put a number on the amount of hours these coaches contribute to not only our team but to the hockey program in Silver Bay as a whole. Both have coached at all levels of youth hockey and bring a tremendous amount of hockey knowledge as well as a great attitude to whatever team they’re coaching.

Number 1! That’s how the
PeeWees finished in their District this year with a 3-0 record in the playoffs. This 1st place finish in the league also sent them to the Regional Tournament at their home rink in Silver Bay. It is a tremendous accomplishment to not only make it to the Regional Tournament but to go in as the No. 1 seed from your District, congratulations!

It’s a big deal to make it to a Regional Tournament where the teams are the top 2 and 3 seeds from Districts 11, 12 and 16. The PeeWees knew they would have their hands full on this particular weekend and started out with a 6-4 victory over a tough East Grand Forks team. Their next game would be even tougher against Bemidji where the PeeWees took a 3-0 loss. At the Regional Tournament a team can only lose once and still stay alive to move on to the next round and after a loss to Bemidji their third game was a mustwin against Moose Lake. With 8 seconds left in the game, Moose Lake tied the score at 2 taking the game into overtime The PeeWees stayed strong through the first overtime but in the second overtime Moose Lake scored on a cross ice pass to a player on the back door The game ended in a 3-2 loss for the PeeWees and was truly a heartbreaker.
You have definitely not seen the last of this team. These players have five and six more years to play together and if you ask any one of them, they’ll tell you all the time, all the miles and sometimes even the heartbreak are worth being able to play the great sport of hockey in the State of Hockey. See you next season!
