Silence graduates from Pine Technical College

Sara Silence of Grand Marais graduated from Pine Technical College in May 2011, earning an associate in science degree in early childhood development.

Silence was the first student at Pine Technical College to graduate by completing the majority of her courses within the e-Learning for Early Childhood Teachers, or E-LECT program. E-LECT is the collaborative effort of 13 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Child Development/Early Childhood Development programs to offer total online courses for students to take and seamlessly transfer back to their “home” campus to meet their degree requirements.

Silence completed her college classes while working, thanks to the scholarship program Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (TEACH), which assists with tuition, books, travel and substitute reimbursement for childcare providers.

Silence graduated from Cook County High School in 1999. She has worked as a daycare provider since 1999 and has offered daycare and preschool programming at KinderTots Daycare in Grand Marais since 2006.
